Season 3 is all about making sense of media. 

I asked listeners what you all wanted for season 3 and the responses were split largely between stories from art history and episodes about different materials. I decided to combine the two so every episode is about a different art medium with a story from art history related to that material and interviews with people involved in the creation of that medium. About the Show

Art is for everyone, but sometimes, the way we talk about art doesn't make sense to anyone. I created Art Smart to help break through the confusing artspeak and help everyone understand and enjoy art a little bit more. 

In Season 1, Art Smart focused on the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design. The elements of art are the building blocks of art and the principles of design focus on how artists arrange those building blocks. Understanding the Elements and Principles can help you become a better creator whether you aspire to be the next Leonardo da Vinci, or you just want your family photos to look good on social media. 

For Season 2, Art Smart focused on different eras and movements in art. What is the difference between modern and post-modern? How were the Post-Impressionists and Impressionists similar and different? Learn all about these and other movements in Season 2. Each episode covered a movement or era in broad strokes, then gives you five specific artists/works to look at for a better understanding. 

Season 3 is all about media. Each episode starts with a little bit of history or the story of an artist working with the material in amazing and unexpected ways. I also sat down to talk with manufacturers to learn how the materials are made and learn some tips and tricks to make the most of the media.
